the AMEX project is one of several offshoots from wild Mexican redspore, and started from a small albino fruit that looked like a bishop piece from a chess set. The clone from this fruit then produced much larger albinos that fell into two distinct categories: half of the fruits had normal straight gills, and half of them had very unusual branching interconnected gills reminiscent of morel mushrooms. These irregular gilled genetics received the Asymmetric label, while the straight gills ended up labeled AMEX Round, Long, and Robusto based on their shapes.
The Asymmetric grows strange and powerful silver capped mushrooms with oblong caps, a strong tendency for partially doubled or conjoined fruits, and a general disregard for radial symmetry. The branching gills are truly a sight to see, especially when the bluing starts to set in at maturity.
