Psilocybe Tasmaniana is described from Tasmania and southeastern Australia, currently reported from New South Wales and predominantly New Zealand. It was first found growing on kangaroo dung or with wood and leaves intermixed with dung, in grasslands and Australian Eucalyptus forests. The growth pattern is solitary to gregarious in small groups, close together but not densely clustered. This species has also been observed growing from soil mixed with woody debris, sticks, and grasses, or in potting mix and in areas of landscaping with clay soil and decomposing bark mulch.
