Psilocybe Caerulescens is Native to Mexico and also found in Georgia. It was a favorite of ancient Aztec indians. It is still used today by Mazatec shamans . In 1955 Maria Sabina, a Mazatec curandera gifted Gordan Wasson 13 pairs of this sacred fungi.
In the wild this mushroom favors sites where the ground has been disturbed and other plants and fungi seldom grow. This includes areas which have had recent landslides. It also has been cultivated for centuries outside of Mexico and can be found in Brazil and Venezuela, as well as certain areas of the United States such as Florida, Georgia and South Carolina. However, they were first ‘officially’ identified in 1923, growing on sugar cane mulch in Alabama. It can often be found at higher altitudes, mountainous areas that get some sunshine. It mostly grows during the Mexican rainy season June through October.
