Ps. ochraceocentrata originates from the Natal region of Africa. Genetic sequencing verified that it is a separate species from Psilocybe Cubensis, although it shares many characteristics and is the closest known relative. The species was described as new to science in 1995 by Jochen Gartz, Derek Reid, Michael Smith, and Albert Eicker. This species was renamed to Ps. Ochraceocentrata and was formerly known as Psilocybe Natalensis and then Aff. Psilocybe Natalensis. This isolation is a blue capped isolation.
